JUST DOING HIS JOB

Former Council Ranger Michael was bashed while issuing a parking ticket. With this sort of abuse increasing, the USU is calling on the NSW Government to increase protections for rangers & parking patrol officers. (photo credit)

The USU wishes to thank all those who participated in the Ranger and Parking Patrol Officer safety survey

THE SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED. WHAT NEXT?

USU CAMPAIGN TO PROTECT RANGERS AND
PARKING PATROL OFFICERS:

The USU continues campaigning for improved safety for Rangers and Parking Patrol Officers.

The most recent report was of a council worker who received a hit from behind which resulted in injuries and the loss of several teeth. Previous experiences reported to the Union have ranged from verbal abuse, physical assaults, threats of violence and stalking. In one incident a council worker was run down while attempting to control parking outside a school.

The Union is asking the State Government to develop clearer guidelines for police and judicial officers about how violent incidents should be dealt with. The Guidelines should cover the use of Section 21A of the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Act allowing courts to take into account the victim’s job as a public official or community worker when sentencing offenders.

Councils, the government and the community must take these issues seriously. The USU is also asking the State Government to develop and roll out public education programs that clearly demonstrate that the intimidation and abuse of public officers is just not on!

More data is required on the issue so the Union is launching a comprehensive survey and ramping up the campaign for increased protections.

Make your voice heard. If you are a Ranger or Parking Patrol Officer, participate in the survey.
