USU delegates are the face of the USU and are our most valuable asset. Delegates play an important role in representing members in key forums such as local consultative and OH&S committees, as well as handling grievances and disputes. Delegates are also active in recruitment and in campaigning on important matters such as our industrial rights at work and in making local agreements. The USU’s extensive network of local delegates, organisers and industrial staff is a powerful force in protecting and enhancing good working conditions and supporting strong and secure workplaces.

We want to make sure Delegates are fully trained so that they can confidently fulfil this vital role.

The USU Delegate Training program, conducted in partnership with NSW TAFE, over the last 7 years delivers accredited training to provide workplace delegates with the skills necessary for their representational role. Over 600 delegates have attended and completed level 1, and over 200 have attended and completed level 2 training courses.

4. Recognition by management of any identified skills acquired by a delegate in that role for the purposes of progression through any skills-based progression system operating in that workplace wherever those identified skills are also required by the substantive position occupied by that delegate.
