USU WOMENS COMMITTEE

Strong unions need strong women!

There are a number of ways you can support USU women. You can also become a member of the USU Women's Committee or attend the USU Women's Conference held every two years.

WHAT IS THE USU WOMENS COMMITTEE?

The USU Womens Committee was established to develop strategies to assist women activists in the USU and to increase female membership of the union. The committee also assists in the development of policies on issues affecting women in the workforce and society.

WHY NOT JOIN IN?

All USU female members are invited to attend the USU Women’s Committee, which meets every quarter. To ensure women can attend we have organised for two day meetings and two night meetings. DOWNLOAD NOMINATION FORM HERE

Those attending use the forum to exchange information and ideas on issues of importance to women workers across New South Wales. They also use the forum to develop policies and campaigns to improve working conditions for women and to increase participation by women in our union.

A driving force

Women of the union need to be active to ensure equal representation and keep womens issues on the union agenda. The Women’s Committee is the driving force in major campaigns such as:

  • Paid Maternity Leave
  • Pay Equity
  • Work & Family
  • Award & Agreement model clause development

The Union also holds a womens conference every two years and uses this forum to educate and encourage women’s participation onto the union’s Branch Committees of Management, through proportional representation policy.
