Blacktown City Council EA09: Jacka Back on Track

By Peter Kent
USU Organiser
Oct 13, 2009

On Tuesday 13th October 2009 the United Services Union Organiser Peter Kent, Industrial Officer Adam Jacka and Delegate Shane Clapham as well as Blacktown City Council management representatives David Reynolds and Amanda Evans attended the Industrial Relations Commission before Commissioner McKenna to report back on a number of issues currently listed.

  • IRC 9/1358 - Conference - Dispute USU & Blacktown City Council re negotiations regarding new enterprise agreement
  • IRC 9/1386 - Mention - Dispute USU & Blacktown City Council – re 1%  pay increases
  • IRC 9/1219 - Mention - Dispute Blacktown City Council & USU re withdrawal of essential services labour

These three matters were heard together by mutual agreement to make up for lost time now that Adam Jacka is back on board and all the matters were related and relevant.

As a result of these proceedings it was agreed by all

  • That  negotiations  were progressing in good faith.
  • There has been no Industrial action.
  • A timetable detailing scheduled fortnightly EA09 negotiating meetings had been implemented and constructive.
  • Council to pass on Award payment of 3.2% (or min $22.00) effective first pay period November 2009.
  • Any negotiated figure above 3.2% to be back dated accordingly.

The USU made it clear that as far as the Union and its members were concerned the 1% issue was a separate issue and would be dealt with as such.

The United Services Union acknowledges and appreciates the efforts and contribution of all its Members, Delegates and EA09 representatives and believes that the EA campaign is progressing positively and exciting times lay ahead.
