A highlight of the conference was the farewell for the union's General Secretary Brian Harris.
Ben Kruse told conference, "Brian can be proud of his achievements as General Secretary of our great union. He leaves behind a great legacy - a union in a strong financial position which has had an increase in membership, especially in female membership."
Ben added, "During Brian's time as Secretary, the union has achieved Paid Maternity Leave for women working in local government, won significant Pay Equity results, protected regional jobs from being contracted out or lost to amalgamations, fought for the protection of jobs in the energy industry and overseen the merge between the Australian Services Union (Clerical and Admin Branch) and the Municipal Employees Union seeing a united, modern and powerful union."
"These are just some of the many achievements Brian leaves behind. I am proud that I had the honour of working with him on many of these campaigns."
