Over the past 12 months the USU and Local Government Learning Solutions joint training project has focused on the unlawful behaviour of bullying and harassment in the workplace.
The USU and LGSA each committed to delivering 24 half day workshops for a total of 48 workshops. The demand by councils was so high that additional workshops were scheduled. To date, over 1500 employees, supervisors, managers and general managers have attended the workshops.

USU Workcover Assist Project Officer Graeme Chew who facilitates the seminars believes this program is vital. "This has been the most beneficial WorkCover Assist programme I have been involved in over the past four years. Personally, at times, it has been very emotional, however also very rewarding. Initially I wondered if “Bullying” would be an issue in local government?
"However, it became very evident, after delivering to the first three or four councils, that “Bullying” was a real issue. From that point on I no longer wondered “if”, sadly I expected that at least one “bully” and “victim” would be attending each workshop.
"For the silent victims, I encourage you to seek help and/or report any person with “bullying” behaviours to management, a peer or your union representative.
"For the “bully” the message is clear and simple. Stop being a Bully. You need to acknowledge that your unacceptable behaviours are unlawful and must be addressed immediately."
