USU member Noel Fuller won a safety award at the Safety Conference held at Penrith in March.
NSW Minister for Industrial Relations John Della Bosca, champion campaigner Bernie Banton and Penrith MP Karyn Paluzzano congratulate USU Member Noel Fuller from Penrith council on his Award.
Noel (PCC Ranger Services Co-ordinator) had a concept for a vehicle which would assist with the handling of large and dangerous dogs, and with assistance from Ken Myhill (PCC), achieved a great outcome. He was nominated for the Award by Delegate Bev Spearpoint.
The animal services vehicle was developed as a project to address the OH&S issues associated with handling and impounding large and dangerous dogs. For some time Animal Services Officers needed to lift large animals into a vehicle, thereby at risk from injury. There were limited options available for alternative vehicles.
Noel's “Animal Carrying Unit”
The new vehicle includes, • easy to access ventilated animal storage areas, • rear lift for large animals (up to 320kg) • easy to access storage areas for animal control equipment and personal hygiene equipment
The animal storage areas can be moved onto the lift, so that there is a minimal handling of dangerous dogs.
