Feb 13, 2008

13th February 2008

Prime Minister
Hon. Kevin Rudd
Parliament House
Canberra
ACT 2600

Dear Prime Minister

Re:    Apology to the stolen generation

The United Services Union whole heartedly congratulates the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and the Parliament, for today’s apology to the stolen generation and Australia’s Indigenous people.  The Union recognises this is just the first step to right past wrongs and urges this (and successive) governments, to continue to work towards reconciliation of our Nation’s peoples.

The Government’s unequivocal apology is a landmark occasion in Australia’s history and should be celebrated as such.

We welcome this great event at the opening of Parliament as a demonstration of Australia’s coming of age.

We thank you for your decision to deal with this matter with the attention and sensitivity it required

Yours faithfully,

Ben Kruse
GENERAL SECRETARY
