Mid Coast Water Agreement Finalised

By Trish Brown
USU Organiser
Apr 9, 2008

The USU is pleased to announce that negotiations regarding the Mid Coast County Council Agreement have been finalised and registered in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.

Midcoast Water are proven leaders in the Industry and the spirit surrounding negotiations and outcomes of this agreement are proof of why. The agreement demonstrates that organisations can be efficient and pay fair wages.

Midcoast Water General Manager Neil Hanington commented that the employees are the council’s best asset; this was clearly evident with negotiations resulting in a five year agreement being struck.

The USU would like to say a special thanks to Mr Hanington for his insistence to have a collective agreement under the State IR system and not allowing Work Choices to cloud the negotiations that had taken place prior to the 2007 election.

The agreement not only offers many supporting benefits to members such as : pay increases of 3.5% to 4% per annum over the life of the agreement, additional 1% superannuation contributions per annum commencing 1 November 2008, paid maternity leave increased from 9 to 14 weeks and a loyalty bonus payment on untaken sick leave but also a new and fairer salary system, including access to enhanced career opportunities for members.

We would like to thank USU members and all negotiating parties for participating in producing a fair and equitable agreement, especially the Workplace Consultative Committee and USU delegates Matt Walsh and Lindsay Phegan.
