USU & Mosman Council Staff Consultative Committee Work To Improve Conditions

By Roy Barnes

Apr 16, 2009

November saw the Union successful in the fight to have Local Government declared to fall under the NSW Industrial Relations Commission with WorkChoices having no effect on Local Government employees.  Working conditions and jobs are protected by the Local Government State Award, as there were before the threat of Workchoices.

Mosman Municipal Council invited the USU to collaborate with the Staff Consultative Committee to form a new Enterprise Agreement to improve Award conditions to make Mosman Municipal Council an employer of choice, with an employment package that has obvious benefits of employment.

The agreement provides:

  • Pay increases and other items that are included in the 2007 Local Government (State) Award and its successors;
  • RDO arrangements continue;
  • Maternity return to work program that provides up $5000 and assistance finding Child Care;
  • A travel subsidy to encourage staff to use public transport;
  • Enterprise Agreement Leave that allows staff to accumulate an extra week's leave;
  • Negotiable working hours that can be approved to suit your life commitments;
  • Carer's Leave without certificates;
  • Tertiary Study Allowance of up to $2500;
  • Exam and study leave;
  • Self Funded Leave without pay options;
  • Over age special concession for those too old to be eligible for superannuation payments;
  • Phased Retirement plan that can provide part-time working arrangements;
  • Council will investigate the opportunity of working from home on request.

Please see related policies for full details.
