On May 15 Collective Agreement negotiations between Phone tab Management and representatives of the United Services Union, which had been adjourned at Management's request during the Autumn Racing Carnival, recommenced. At this meeting, Management informed the USU that TABCORP would be making a revised offer on the pay increases and ‘Finishing at Night Allowance’ to operators. Management provided the union with a copy of a notice to TABCORP employees from CEO Elmer Funke Kupper explaining the rationale behind this revised offer. According to this document, TABCORP is under pressure from the global financial crisis, increased taxes and charges, and other market forces. As a result, the letter states, “2010 will be a tough year” for the company.
Revised Pay Offer Management is now offering a pay increase of 1.5% from July 1 2009, with a further increase of 2% to be paid from July 1 2010. (Previously, Management had offered a 3.5% increase from July 1 2009 and 3.75% from July 1 2010. This was itself a decrease from the original offer, rejected by operators in September 2008, of 4% from July 1 2009 and 4% from July 1 2010).
Revised ‘Finishing at Night’ Offer Management has also withdrawn the offer of providing taxis to railway stations in a radius bounded by Parramatta and Strathfield railway stations for operators who finish work between sunset and 10 p.m. Management has informed the union that the company is offering to pay for taxis only to ‘the nearest railway station’ as stipulated in Clause 22 sub clause (1) of the current TAB NSW (Granville) Account Sales Operators agreement 2006.
Copies of the revised pay and ‘Finishing at Night Allowance’ offer by Management have been posted on notices boards in the various buildings of the Granville worksite. A Copy of the ‘Notice from the CEO’ can be downloaded here. Members should acquaint themselves with this revised offer and advise delegates Christine Grant, Kerry Vallely, Christina Galan and Tim Lynch of their attitude to it. Non-members should join the USU. Application for Membership forms are also available on noticeboards or from union delegates.
