As the aftermath of the Victorian Bushfire Disaster continues, many
working families struggle to deal with their loss. In a sign of
generosity and support, local working families are digging deep to
donate to the disaster relief appeal. One such gesture has been made by
the local USU membership of Cessnock City Council. Co-ordinated by local delegates, Cessnock City Council’s USU membership have made a $5000 donation to the Red Cross Appeal to help those families who have fallen victims to the bushfire disaster.
In making this donation, local members are testament to the true strength and generosity displayed by a united front when another community is in need.
USU Organiser Luke Hutchinson “What these members have put forward out of their own funds is a demonstration of the humility of these members and I feel honoured to represent them.”
The thoughtful action undertaken by the membership has been further supported by Cessnock City Council, matching the members’ donation with an additional $5000 donation being made to the Red Cross Appeal.
In a time of economic uncertainty, it is great to see USU members and Council uniting to support fellow Australians in desperate need.
Such support is not isolated within the United Services Union with many employees and members contributing to what is a most needy cause. The USU commends all parties in uniting and giving generously to provide relief to a grief stricken community.
