NIB HEALTH FUNDS MEMBERS 2009 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT - UPDATE No. 2

By Paul Sansom
USU Organiser
Jul 1, 2009

Negotiations for your new collective agreement have started, and the United Services Union is at the negotiating table, on your behalf.

What have we asked for?
You'll remember that we held a postal vote of USU members on the draft log of claims which we developed as a result of the survey NIB employees completed for us.

97% voted to approve the log of claims.
So we are asking for:

  • Guaranteed annual salary increases for all employees covered by the agreement in line with institutions performing "like" duties and CPI
  • Review/introduction of graduated pay scales based on skills/competencies
  • Review of Team Leader salary rates
  • Pay equity for retail employees
  • Increased company superannuation contributions
  • Review of Call Centre rostering arrangements.
  • Introduction of relief staffing options
  • Introduction of RDOs
  • Flexitime options investigated
  • Job share opportunities investigated
  • Paid leave for defence forces, emergency services
  • Review of parental leave provisions -re-introduction into agreement
  • Review of redundancy/redeployment provisions
  • Clear disciplinary process to be included in agreement
  • Period of notice for termination to be reviewed
  • Corporate health & fitness options
  • Reserved child care places/ work creche
  • Consultation/ change management clauses to be reviewed
  • Guidelines introduced in relation to communication (eg) team meetings, setting of KPIs

The United Services Union's Organiser Paul Sansom is negotiating on behalf of USU members.  Paul said "Negotiations are progressing well with every item on the Log of Claims receiving attention. The joint committees have agreed upon changes in some areas, however, others are the subject of 'spirited discussions'. We are committed to getting the best possible results for USU members.  I encourage all USU members to keep in contact with their delegates and the other negotiating team members so that we can incorporate our members’ feedback to the negotiations along the way."

Negotiations are continuing and all parties hope to have negotiations finalised by mid to late August.

Your Union continues to work in conjunction with the NIB staff elected committee to ensure the Agreement presented to staff reflects improvements in conditions acceptable to USU members.

For further information contact your negotiating committee representatives Marilyn Timmins, Di Robinson, Coral-Lea McLaren, Steven Jones, Kristy Charman.
