LOCAL GOVERNMENT AWARD CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF
Mar 2, 2010: On 24 February 2010 the USU filed dispute proceedings in the  Industrial Relations Commission for the 2010 Local Government (State) Award.

Council rate pegging must go before communities suffer
Feb 18, 2010: The State Government.s decision to reduce the 2010-11 rate cap for NSW councils to 2.6 per cent will have a severe impact on the services communities rely on, said the United Services Union (USU) today.

Local Government Award 2010: What Members Want
Feb 16, 2010: The Union is preparing to file a new Local Government (State) Award in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission. In the lead up to this process the Union undertook a survey of members. The response from members was tremendous -  over 400 surveys were received by late October 2009.  The following is a summary of these responses.

CORPORATE SAVING WORKSHOPS ACROSS MID WESTERN REGIONAL COUNCIL
May 1, 2009: The United Services Union urges all members and employees to attend Workshops in your area and department which have been set-up by MWRC in conjunction with the USU to allow everybody to have a say in where council’s finances could be better utilised.  We need all workers to have an input so bring your ideas to the workshops.

USU & Mosman Council Staff Consultative Committee Work To Improve Conditions
Apr 16, 2009: November saw the Union successful in the fight to have Local Government declared to fall under the NSW Industrial Relations Commission with WorkChoices having no effect on Local Government employees.  Working conditions and jobs are protected by the Local Government State Award, as there were before the threat of Workchoices.

PROTECTING OUR STATE AWARD: TIME FOR KEVIN RUDD AND NATHAN REES TO HONOUR PROMISES TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES
Apr 2, 2009: With the new Fair Work Australia federal industrial relations changes having passed into law Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard is now chairing a series of meetings with State Industrial Relations Ministers to reach agreement on how these new laws will apply to employees presently engaged under State awards. The USU is calling on the State and Federal governments to stand by pre-election commitments to protect our NSW State award and state industrial rights.
