Qantas EBA 9: Qantas reveals more detail on Claims
Aug 25, 2010: The ASU National Negotiating team met with Qantas for our 9th meeting on the 19th August. At that meeting Qantas finally presented more detail on their claims. Your NNT are very cautious about what has been proposed; from cashing out of annual leave to the increased use of temporary employees. Qantas' 'flexibility' comes at the expense of a permanent workforce and work-life balance.

Equal Pay Day is 4th September
Aug 25, 2010: Equal Pay Day illustrates the number of extra days women have to work after the end of the financial year to earn the same as men. This year, in Australia, Equal Pay Day 2010 falls on 4 September, because women on average earn 18 percent less than men (based on ABS figures at February 2010).

Lindsay Tanner pays tribute to the labour movement
Jun 25, 2010: On indulgence, I rise to advise the House that I will not be contesting the forthcoming federal election. I just wish to outline some of the reasoning behind my decision. A couple of weeks ago I spoke with the then Prime Minister indicating that it was my intention not contest the coming election. He asked me to delay consideration of this decision, indeed to reconsider.

LIVERPOOL COUNCIL LONG SERVICE LEAVE: UPDATE
Jun 25, 2010: On Thursday 24 June a loyal member sent the USU a copy of Liverpool Council's 2007 Long Service Leave Policy which confirms that employees could accumulate over and above the amount of leave prescribed in the Local Government State Award, contradicting Council's move to force staff to use up accumulated LSL.

Liverpool Council: LSL Survey Results
Jun 16, 2010: The United Services Union recently sent out a survey asking for Liverpool City Council employees' input regarding the instructions given by the current General Manager on how employees should take their Long Service Leave Entitlements.
