USU at Homebake 2009
By Robert Potter

The USU New Gen (youth committee) have carried out their first major event to promote the USU and connect with young workers. Homebake is a one-day music festival held at the domain in Sydney City each year. Only Australian bands perform and over 20000 people attend each year. This year the event was held on Saturday 5th December.
The idea of having a stall at Homebake was born by New Gen. New Gen planned the event and ran the stall on the day.
The USU was welcomed by many interested Homebake attendees. Young people who didn’t know about unions took the time to say hello and find out about the role of unions in the workplace and the community.
Current USU members also appreciated the opportunity of sunscreen, a hat and a cold drink of water supplied at their stall.
Over 20000 people attended the event and the value of having the USU and New Gen brand on prominent display will hold many benefits for future campaigns.
