The Local Government Superannuation Scheme (LGSS) was established on 1 July 1997, when it separated from State Super.

The Scheme is one of the largest Superannuation Schemes in Australia with over $3,500,000,000 invested on behalf of over 70,000 employees of local governments throughout New South Wales.

The Scheme purpose is to provide financial security for the future of members when they leave the workforce due to retirement, resignation or disablement, as well as to provide for financial security for member's beneficiaries in the event of death.

The Scheme conducts work site visits, retirement seminars, and offers member discounts on a range of products and services. The Scheme provides free financial planning advice to members who are about to retire (the financial planners are salaried employees and do not receive commissions or 'kick-backs' to sell products which don't meet your needs).

LGSS has a network of offices throughout NSW and offers Home Loans (low interest - no application fee) and discounted family health insurance.
