United Talks Over TAB Pay Problems Sep 1, 2007: On Thursday July 19, discussions were held between Tabcorp Management and representatives of the USU to discuss measures put in place to address problems with the pay and superannuation of Phonetab operators.

Campaign continues for Sutherland Shire Council Enterprise Agreement Sep 1, 2007: The USU and Sutherland Shire Council began discussions regarding a new Enterprise Agreement in early March 2007. Initially Council kicked off their side of discussions by announcing their intention to draw up a Federal Agreement (under WorkChoices) and the Union launched its Protect 07 campaign at mass meetings of members.

Fairfield Outdoor Staff Must Get A Fair Go Sep 1, 2007: Following the long awaited introduction of a Salary System for Indoor staff at Fairfield Council, USU members are demanding that a new equitable system be created for Outdoor workers.

Sep 1, 2007: The Australian Fair Pay Commission (AFPC) decision has once again demonstrated the Federal Government’s strategy to drive minimum wages down with the latest increases lower than that awarded by the Clerical and Administrative (State) Award on 13 July 2007.

Qantas: Profits Up Wages Down Sep 1, 2007: On 16 August Qantas announced a before-tax profit of $1,032 million for the 2006/07 financial year and while the news is all good for Qantas shareholders, with dividends expected to deliver millions, staff face the prospect of their work being downgraded with the introduction of lower paid positions to perform existing customer service work.

WorkChoices Is A Community Issue Sep 1, 2007: At a recent North Sydney Your Rights at Work committee meeting, guest speaker Mike Bailey spoke to interested local residents about the negative affects of Workchoices. Mike Bailey is the Labor candidate for North Sydney currently held by Federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Joe Hockey.
