JETSTAR EBA4: IT'S TIME FOR ACTION

The National Negotiation Team held yet another meeting with Jetstar recently for EBA4 and we are now officially going around in circles!
Jetstar management simply have no interest in valuing our work. It is time to take action and the union, after consultation with members, has decided it is time to lodge an application for a ballot about taking legal industrial action under the Fair Work Act at Jetstar.

The application to start the ballot process has been lodged on August 25 and as we go to press we are waiting for a hearing date and time. At the hearing the Tribunal will consider the negotiations we have had so far – 10 plus meetings, over many months. Then, when the application is granted a postal ballot of ASU/USU members will be conducted by an independent organisation, the Australian Electoral Commission.

The ballot asks members what action they are prepared to agree to.

The ballot process can take a few weeks to commence and finish – when we know the dates and the exact process we will let you know.

The ballot is only about what industrial actions members MAY take, it is not saying we will take all of the action necessarily, we want to have a number of options.

No action can be taken until after a successful ballot of members is conducted.

Jetstar stopped negotiating
Even after the ASU/USU showed Jetstar management that our members had passed a resolution that Jetstar reconsider their position on our claims, Jetstar was in no mood to negotiate.

Your ASU/USU NNT remains willing at all times to discuss our claims and negotiate with the company. Taking industrial action is always the last resort and at any time we are ready to consider anything Jetstar puts to us.

Delegates spent over four hours in a room with Jetstar management and got absolutely nowhere.

Jetstar still won’t agree to meet to review the classification structure, they still reject most of our claims, and they show no sign of budging on anything.

Jetstar management really don’t want employees to have a real and decent pay rise. They keep showing employees again and again that they do not really value their work.

What can you do?
Only ASU/USU members can vote in the ballot. Members should urge their colleagues to join up if they want to make Jetstar value our work. For campaign updates visit www.usu.org.au
