It's time for Action at Jetstar - Ready, Set, Go
After months of negotiations it is clear we are getting nowhere fast with Jetstar and your NNT after consultation with members, have all decided it is time to lodge an application for a ballot about taking legal industrial action under the Fair Work Act at Jetstar.
The application to start the ballot process has been lodged today and under the law it must be heard at the Fair Work Tribunal within 2 working days.
What’s next?
We are waiting for a hearing date and time. At the hearing the Tribunal will consider the negotiations we have had so far – 10 plus meetings, over many months. Then, when the application is granted a postal ballot of ASU/USU members will be conducted by an independent organisation, the Australian Electoral Commission.
The ballot asks members what action they are prepared to agree to.
The ballot process can take a few weeks to commence and finish – when we know the dates and the exact process we will let you know.
The ballot is only about what industrial actions members MAY take, it is not saying we will take all of the action necessarily, we want to have a number of options.
No action can be taken until after a successful ballot of members is conducted.
What can you do?
Only ASU/USU members can vote in the ballot. If you are not a member you have a window of opportunity to join now. You can join online here or get a membership form from your local rep.
If you are an ASU/USU member make sure NOW that your address and birthday details are up to date. We need this to ensure you get a ballot paper.
What about negotiations?
Your ASU/USU NNT remains willing at all times to discuss our claims and negotiate with the company. Taking industrial action is always the last resort and at any time we are ready to consider anything Jetstar puts to us.
Negotiations can continue while the ballot process continues.
Any questions?
If you have any questions ask your NNT member or organiser.
