Workers left out! No Union representation on the Steering Committee
A Steering Committee has been formed to develop the O'Farrell Government's plan for Councils across the state. The Steering Committee includes representatives of the Department of Local Government, employer associations and the Local Government Manager's Association.
At present there is no provision for any Union representation.
This is a ridiculous situation! The people most affected by any changes in Local Government will be Council workers, the majority of whom are Union members. But the O’Farrell Government refuses to allow the Union a seat on the Steering committee.
Barry O’Farrell has taken away the right for workers to have a say in the future of their industry. As the union which represents over 30,000 local government workers, the USU is demanding a seat at the table.
Have a say - sign our petition
The USU has begun to circulate a petition throughout Councils across New South Wales demanding Union representation on the Steering Committee.
We also demand that the O’Farrell government address the issues of rate pegging, funding and cost shifting as a priority before other issues are considered in Local Government.
If you have not signed the petition contact your Union Organiser, local workplace delegate or download the petition HERE
Shame Barry Shame!!
