Did you know that this week the Turnbull Government has introduced three bills to attack industry super funds and to open the door for banks to profit from workers’ retirement savings?

We need you to urgently contact the Senate cross-bench as the Turnbull Government is trying to convince them to pass laws that will give the banks what they want – to get their hands on your superannuation.

This will be like letting the fox into the hen house.

Five Bills report card
These laws are the Turnbull Government doing the bidding of the banks. They aim to kick workers’ representatives off boards, make it harder for industry funds to run while making it easier for banks, and remove the right for workers to bargain for a fund they want.

The Senate crossbench will decide the fate of these bill. It is likely to come down to only a few votes and it could go either way. Crossbench Senators, like the Nick Xenophon Team, will decide whether these laws pass or not. They are influenced by how many people contact them. Please contact them now and tell them to stop the banks getting their hands on your super.

These bills could be voted on at any time, please contact the crossbench on social media, email or by phone to urge they vote against the bills which attack industry super.

This is a link to their details https://www.australianunions.org.au/contact_crossbencher, and below we’ve included suggested wording if you wish to send an email.

Suggested wording if you wish to contact your Senator!

Dear Senator,

This week the Turnbull Government has introduced three bills to attack industry super funds and to open the door for banks to profit from workers’ retirement savings.

The Government is pursuing its agenda despite the chaos of the parliament.

These laws are the Turnbull Government doing the bidding of the banks. They aim to kick workers’ representatives off boards, make it harder for industry funds to run while making it easier for banks, and remove the right for workers to bargain for a fund they want.

Industry Super has outperformed bank owned super funds and they invest in Australian infrastructure which creates jobs.

The banks are involved in countless scandals, including ripping off workers’ super accounts by more than $200 million.

I don’t trust the banks with my super, and neither should you.

The Turnbull Government is doing the banks’ bidding so they can make money from workers’ super.

I ask that you stand up to defend industry super from the Turnbull Government and the banks and oppose these bills.
